For Hooksetters Fishing Trips we cover several different waters. These are a few of our key areas. If interested in other waters, let us know and if we can not assist you in fishing, we will find someone for you who can.
The Wisconsin River System. At the northern border of the state lies Lac Vieux Dessert. This beautiful body of water is famous for producing giant muskies and has a long history of trophy hybirds as well. In fact LVD is the home of the World Record Tiger Musky. While noted for its big muskies and its amazing ice fishing, LVD is also the headwaters of the Wisconsin River.
Also know as "the hardest working river in the U.S.", the Wisconsin spans 100's of miles before working into the Mississippi and is some of the finest fishing not only in Wisconsin, but in North America. Virtually every warm, freshwater species of fish known to the U.S. thrives in trophy size and quantity in the mighty Wisconsin while it is the staple species of Musky, Smallmouth Bass and Walleye we chase most commonly. It's tanic, flowing waters provide great oxygen and structure while support abundant forage such as minnows, insects, crayfish and reptiles.
A great thing about the Wisconsin River is that it constantly changes. Water levels change with the season, the weather and the industry fueled by lumber and power supply. These changes may seen to be a negative to many people while Hooksetters looks at it as opportunity. Changing conditions means changing fish attitudes and regardless of the surrounding elements, there is always a new area to catch fish. While our approach may change several times throughout the day, the river allows are success to be consistant where many lakes become stagnent.
When speaking of the Wisconsin "River" a person can not just think about a flowing stream. With the high amount of industry between the long lengths of natural beauty, the river has become more of a chain of flowages and resevoirs. Rather than saying we only fish the Wisconsin River, it is better to put it as Hooksetters guides on: Rhinelander Flowage, Boom Lake, Lake Alice, Lake Nokomis, Lake Mohawskin, Lake Wausau, Halfmoon Lake, the Mosinee Flowage, Lake DuBay, Eau Pleine and several stretches of river between. This comes out to being a massive, never ending display of water and structure..jpg)
While you can guess by reading above, we spend alot of time on current related water and for good reason. Current plays a large role in fish location. By what about lakes? Not resevoirs but the glistening clear waters of the north you so commonly think about when associated fishing with northern Wisconsin? Well, Hooksetters is one of the most accomplished tournament anglers in Wisconsin history.
